Fall Sunfish Regatta has been Posponed until Oct. 24 2009. This is just to start some discussion and figure out how these forums work.

I encourage all the Sunfish sailing members to come out and join us for this regatta. We always need photos too, so if you are not sailing, please come by and take some digital pictures for our new web-site! Thanks: Jim

Could this weekend's regatta be cancelled due to the weather like the Columbus day one? More specifically, what weather conditions would warrant a cancellation? In the event of a cancellation, at what point will we be notified?
Thank you very much,
Charles

Good Question Charles. We have no "official" guidelines for race cancellation except lightning. We do not sail with lightning nearby or visible. Community Sailing is restricted to less than 15 mph winds and the CS members are eligible and encouraged to race with us. Sunday was marginal weather with Moderate to Strong wind, overcast with the threat of rain and unseasonably cold. No one elected to sail. The Race Committee/Safety Boat was present and ready, but the concensus was not to sail. Also, the Fleets will look for different conditions. Sunfish and GP sailors prefer light to moderate wind and the Laser sailors will be attracted to Moderate and Strong winds. We only had one Laser sailor on Sunday so he could not race. If several more showed up, he would have. If you are sailing a Sunfish, look for wind less than 20 mph and no steady or heavy intermitent rain. We will most likey sail.
