NOTICE OF RACE/SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
CRYC Adult Opti Regatta - 2026
1. RULES
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in most current The Racing Rules of Sailing 2025-2028, US Sailing Prescriptions, and applicable class rules, with the exception made below.
Interpretation of RRS Rule 2: In the interest of congenial sailing CRYC will interpret the principles of sportsmanship and fair play to include the use of language during races. Threats, verbal abuse, or other misconduct are considered unacceptable behavior and may be considered grounds for a protest under RRS Rule 2. See RRS Submission 272-15.
Sails: Non-class practice sails are permissible provided they meet class measurements.
Crew-Age Adjustment Rule (Adult Opti Only): This regatta is primarily for adult competitors. Youth sailors may participate if they meet the minimum age requirement. Sailors below the minimum age may qualify by inviting crew; the combined ages of skipper and crew will be used to meet the minimum age threshold of 40yrs.
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
The series is only open to members of Cooper River Yacht Club. Eligible class: Optimist Dinghy (Adult Opti Format). The Rear Commodore may approve additional classes for future editions.
3. FEES and OBLIGATIONS
There are no fees for club members participating in this Regatta. Non-members may also participate, but will not be scored.
4. REGISTRATION
All competitors must register either online or in person prior to the start of the first race. Boats failing to register will not qualify for the regatta.

In‑person registration will be accepted by the Race Committee at the clubhouse prior to racing. Skippers must confirm their sail number and any changes to class or crew age‑total eligibility before the start.
5. FLEET START ELIGIBILITY
Any eligible fleets with two or more boats in the starting area at the posted start time shall be eligible to have a start.
6. SCHEDULE
Racing will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 and races start at 17:00 (5:00PM).
Number of Races: The Adult Opti Regatta is currently planned as one race. The Race Committee reserves the right to run additional races at its discretion. Any change to the number of races will be announced at the skipper meeting or via RC communication.
7. THE COURSES
All marks are to be taken to port. The race committee will announce the course either at a skipper meeting or via announcement from the RC station on roof of the clubhouse. The starting line runs between a mark on the north side of the river mark of the same type on the south side of the river nearest the clubhouse This same line serves as the finish line. Club turning marks will be balls; the locations of marks may be changed to shorten or lengthen the course.
Course Options:
- Course 1P or 2P = Windward-Leeward.
- Other drop mark courses (orange or white ball) may be used.
- Optional features: leeward gates, windward offsets, triangle courses.
All courses will be defined at the skippers meeting, or orally on the water.
8. SCORING
Boats that do not physically start a race will not be scored for that race.
Current Format (2026): This regatta consists of one race. Whichever qualified boat crosses the finish line first is the overall winner.
Future Format Flexibility: If multiple races are sailed, scoring will follow Appendix A Low-Point System, unless modified by the Race Committee.
On-the-Water Rules Still Apply: While the scoring is altered for this regatta, Parts 1 through 7 of the standard Racing Rules of Sailing (governing right-of-way, mark-room, and protests) remain fully active during the winner-take-all race itself.
9. AWARDS
CRYC Adult Opti Trophy - awarded to 1st Overall. Trophy will be presented at the annual holiday party.
10. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority, shall not accept any liability for property damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, and/or after the racing.
11. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Changes to this NOR or specific Sailing Instructions may be posted on the official bulletin board one hour prior to the start of racing or announced earlier via club email/webpage.
